Clarification on Tick Mark in Digitally Signed Government Documents

🔐 Clarification on Tick Mark in Digitally Signed Government Documents

The Department of Electronics & IT has issued a clarification regarding the absence of tick marks in digitally signed PDF documents.

With the latest versions of e-Office (v5.6 and above), digital signature details will appear only within the original digital version of the document. However, the printed version will no longer show a green tick mark or any visual indicator beside the signature.

This update has led to confusion among both officials and the public. As per ISO 32000-1 PDF standards, digital signature validity should be verified using the document itself and not with any visual tick or mark.

📌 Important Notes:

  • No tick marks (green or any color) will appear next to digital signatures in printed documents.
  • Signature validity must be verified digitally using Adobe Acrobat Reader's Signature Panel or Status Bar.
  • Kerala State IT Mission will publish a full guide on signature verification at: https://itmission.kerala.gov.in

Officials and public users are requested to adapt to the updated method of digital verification and avoid confusion related to printed signature displays.
